Birth story - Leah and baby Jude

My waters started to break early hours on the Saturday morning the day after my 4th sweep at 41 weeks. I was checked out at the birth centre and sent home until surges had started and became frequent. By 5pm that evening the surges had started, I breathed through and timed them using the Freya app. Once I was getting frequent surges the app notified me it was time to call the midwife. At 11pm we went into the birth centre, the lights dimmed, classical chillout music on, just me and my husband. However the surges had slowed down so we waited 4 hours before being referred to the labour suite for an induction (it was now 24hours since my waters broke)

Almost another 24 hours had passed of breathing through more frequent and strong surges while bouncing on a birth ball, listening to the classical chill out music. By this time I was getting tired, my body had not progressed enough and baby was not responding well. The decision was made to get ready for theatre and have the baby via an unplanned C Section. Although this wasn’t how I’d imagined my birth to be I was happy with the decision and felt informed as to why it was the best option, it was also a relief to know I was getting closer to meeting my baby. Within the hour I heard the sound of my baby cry and my husband revealed we had a beautiful baby boy 💙 👶🏼Jude born Monday 13th January at 2.28am

The Positive Birth Company book and Freya app were the best time and money spent towards my birth experience! The breathing techniques helped me right through to the end, even though it didn’t go to ‘plan’ I still had a positive birth and remained calm and in control throughout 💙 Thank you 🙏🏼 xx
