Birth story - Yvette and baby boy

I’m a second time mum (first was spontaneous labour at 38+5) that was an obstetrician lead pregnancy and birth.

This time I was advanced maternal age (nearly 42) and heading toward 41wks and I was under the care of midwives within a birth centre.

I’d been offered a sweep at 38wks and I declined knowing this baby will come when he’s ready and when the time was right. I’d had rhythmic cramping from 37 weeks but it always fizzled.

On the 19th at 40+5 I had an appointment with my midwife. We talked about doing a CTG on baby and a sweep at 41wks (2 days time). I’d had some cramping that day but of course - Id had these before and told myself ‘well these will fizzle again no doubt’.

However - I was wrong.  I was 5 mins from returning home after that appointment when I had a surge that took my breath away.   I pulled over - breathed through it and managed to drive the 5mins home.

When I arrived I called the midwife who helped me through the next and all of a sudden they were 2.5mins apart.  My partner made it home with our daughter and his father to care for her and in time to get me to the hospital as the midwife was almost going to make me get an ambulance!

I couldn’t have made it through without the Freya app guiding my way.  Through peak hour traffic en route to the hospital as well.

We arrived  in time and they had the bath full and ready. I had the Freya app going the whole time with the midwives and my partner joining in the counting and together we all made it through the surges.

Our baby boy was born 2hrs later.

The most amazing and beautiful completely unmedicated waterbirth.

Massive Thanks to The Positive Birth Company and their Freya app I had the most unforgettable birthing experience.  I am so grateful.
