Birth story - Kate and baby boy

Another incredible birth all thanks to the positive birth company.

18 months ago I gave birth to my first little boy and despite being so scared I had the most amazing natural birth in the MLU with no pain relief, 9 months after my little boy was born, we were pregnant again and so excited!

Being pregnant in a pandemic felt very different to the first time round but I put up my positive affirmations, read my hypnobirthing book, and tried to relax. As I neared my due date I started to panic, that I would have to be there alone, that my birth would be nowhere near as good as my first labour and I felt anxious as our hospitals MLU was closed.

My due date came and went and there was no arrival. 4 days after my due date I woke up to very mild period pains, I thought nothing of it and carried on my day, took my little boy for a walk and had a nap, they didn’t seem to get worse so I thought it was just Braxton hicks. As 6pm came my partner got home from work and we had dinner, they started to feel a little worse but manageable so I had a bath with my little boy, relaxed and thought I best head to bed. As I got in bed about 10pm the contractions got a bit stronger and I finally thought maybe baby is on his way but I was happily breathing through so thought there was a long way to go yet. At about half past 11 I decided I needed a bath again so got in and carried on relaxing and breathing through each one. At 1am my partner said he thought it was time we made our way to hospital and I told him I didn’t want to go as I thought they would send us home and that I wouldn’t be far enough along as I still wasn’t having 3 contractions in 10 minutes lasting longer than a minute. My partner kept saying we should go, so I gave in, and we left home at 1.15am.

Things suddenly intensified and on the 10 minute drive I felt the need to push! As we arrived at the hospital my partner got me in as quickly as possible without time to even get our things. At first they wanted me to go to day care to be checked over but they suddenly realised I didn’t have long at all and quickly took me down to a delivery room where they checked me over and I was 9cm dilated and was told It was okay to start pushing. They told my partner not to go and get our things from the car or he would miss the birth. Very quickly from then my waters went and I could feel him coming down. I had a wobble and said I couldn’t do it and wanted to go home but Joe calmed me down and told me I’d almost done it. After about 10 minutes of pushing my baby was out and they put him in my arms. At that moment I couldn’t even believe I had done it again, pain relief free, a woman’s body is honestly incredible and birth should not be feared!

Within an hour from the birth I had to have some stitches, had started feeding my baby, showered, and was settled down on the ward cuddling my new baby!

I had an amazing positive birth! Women’s bodies are incredible and beautiful, trust your instincts you’ve got this! Thankyou PBC x
