My name is Siobhan and I'm a mum to three boys and one girl. My Hypnobirthing journey began in 2014 when pregnant with my second child. Having had a relatively difficult birth with my first child (lengthy induction and forceps delivery in theatre), I was determined to do what I could to make this birth experience a more positive one. I enrolled on a Hypnobirthing course and attended group classes with my partner. After the first session we were converted to this logical and natural approach to childbirth. Hypnobirthing, contrary to what it sounds like, is grounded in scientific theory and so we came to understand how birth worked from a physiological perspective. Most importantly we learnt what we could do to ensure the necessary cocktail of hormones and muscles required to birth a baby were able to do their job uninhibited.

Hypnobirthing empowered us both by giving my partner an important role in the birth of our child and equipping us with the tools needed to create a positive, empowering and calm birth for myself and our baby. The practice my partner and I did in the lead up to our baby's birth brought us closer together, helped us prepare physically, psychologically and emotionally for the arrival of our baby and enabled me to approach my birth confidently. It was the most special time.

My second son was born at home, in front of the Christmas tree and it was quite simply the best day of my life; I have never felt as good as I did that day. My labour was just a couple hours in length, there were no interventions and I didn't need any pain relief. It was amazing!

Having become a massive advocate for Hypnobirthing and with an academic background in Psychology, I went on to train to become a Hypnobirthing teacher with Katharine Graves in 2015. I am now qualified to teach the KG Hypnobirthing course, the only Hynobirthing course to be accredited by the Royal College of Midwives. I am also a member of The Hypnobirthing Association.

I set up The Positive Birth Company with the intention of bringing together birth workers and relevant practitioners to foster a community of women supporting women, both on a professional and personal level. Making The Positive Birth Company a hub for pregnant women and new mothers, where they can access all the support and advice they need for their journey through pregnancy, birth and motherhood.
