Essential summer items for your baby

Now that the weather is FINALLY heating up we thought we'd compile a list of essential items for your newborn to help ease the summer heat. Keeping baby the right temperature is so important for their wellbeing (and yours!) so keep reading to find our favourite summer items to make life with a newborn that little bit easier.

1. Little Life buggy fan - £10

Gosh babies have it good don’t they? I would love to be pushed around in a pram all day feeling the sweet sweet breeze the Little Life Buggy Fan creates! This product helps ensure your baby won't overheat in the hot weather, however make sure you're monitoring them, prams get hotter than you think!

2. Babymoov baby beach shade - £44.99

It’s not summer without a day at the beach. Your beach escapes may look slightly different with a newborn in tow, goodbye tanning and hello the sweet safety of shade. Your baby’s skin is super delicate, so it's important to keep them out of the sun with the correct protection including lightweight full coverage clothing, a wide brimmed hat, sunglasses (am I the only one that thinks sunglasses on babies is the most adorable thing ever?) and a source of shade. The Babymoov UV sun tents are perfect for keeping your newborn out of the sun whilst also having a covered floor so baby doesn't eat the sand... because you know they will!

3. Binibamba lambs wool pram insert - £109

Now, this one may seem a little counter intuitive, why would I insert wool into a pram to keep my baby cool? But hear me out, sheepskin is a thermo-regulator, keeping your baby warm in winter and cool in summer, how great is that? Some may even say it is un-baa-lievable... excuse the pun.

4. iCandy Universal parasol - £33

Whilst it may go against instinct, covering a pram with a cloth or blanket during hot weather can actually be quite dangerous as it traps the heat inside and can cause baby to overheat. This is why a pram parasol is great to combat the heat and provide your baby with shade. The iCandy pram parasol protects from the sun with UPF 50+ fabric and is available in 13 gorgeous colour ways.

5. Bells Bumz reusable swim nappies - from £9.99

Who doesn't love a stress free splash around the pool? With the Bellz Bumz swim nappy you don’t have to worry about any UFO's (Unwanted Floating Objects) in the water. And how cute are the patterns? This nappy comes with 10 adjustable waist snaps, so it can grow with your little one.

6. Tommee Tippee Room Thermometer - £21.99

The Tommee Tippee Gro Egg 2 helps your safe sleep routine by telling you exactly what the temperature of the room is. The Gro Egg even doubles as a night light and changes colour depending on the temperature of the room, what a good egg!

The colour that is shown represents a temperature range as follows. So you’ll know if your baby’s room is getting hot throughout the night.
16°C and below: Cold - the thermometer will glow blue
16° - 20°C: Recommended - the thermometer will glow yellow
20° - 24°C: Warm - the thermometer will glow orange
Over 24°C: Hot - the thermometer will glow red

7. Etta Loves Lightweight Muslins - £28

We love a muslin here at The Positive Birth Company, and you can never have too many! The Etta Loves muslins are made from organic cotton, meaning they’re a breathable fabric that will help keep your baby cool in summer, whilst still getting that cosy cuddle from a swaddle.

8. Purflo lightweight sleeping bags - £32

Just like it is for us, sleeping in the heat can be a challenge for babies, so you want something cool for them to sleep in, while also giving them that cosy and snug feel. Purflo have got you covered with their lightweight, breathable sleeping bags. Some of their range have breathable panels and removable arms too. Perfect for juggling the highs and lows of British summer time!
