Birth story - Rebecca and baby Jude

On Monday 20th July, in the height of a global pandemic, I had my second baby at home in the water just as I envisioned and it was honestly the most amazing experience of my life thanks to The Positive Birth Company!

In June 2018 I was blessed with a gorgeous baby girl but unfortunately my labour with her was a pretty traumatic experience, resulting in serious injury to my Coccyx and also having to stay in hospital for a week with her needing antibiotics and a lumber puncture. It certainly wasn’t the start of our journey that I would have planned!

When I found out I was pregnant this time, I knew right away that I wanted a totally different experience and that’s when I found The Positive Birth Company and started planning my home birth! I read the book and watched the digital pack with my husband who became a total advocate for Hypnobirthing after initially being a bit sceptical from the name!

I woke up at 2am Monday morning at 39+5 to find my waters had broken. At this point I wasn’t really experiencing any strong surges so my husband and I hopped back in to bed to try and get a few extra hours sleep and rest. Having been in labour with my daughter for over 8 hours I was expecting to need the extra energy! By 6am my surges had really ramped up a gear and were coming every 2-3 minutes so my Husband got to work setting up and filling the birth pool whilst I called the midwife and made arrangements for my Dad to come and collect our daughter.

At 7am the Midwife arrived and at this point I could feel within me that it wouldn’t be much longer until I got to meet my baby! I really focused in on my up breathing and keeping myself UFO, walking around the living room repeating my affirmations in my head and even managed to squeeze in braiding my hair mid surge which made me feel really in control! At 7.30am the pool was ready for me but as I went to get in I felt the sudden urge to bear down. I jumped in the pool which immediately made me feel more relaxed and my down breathing then came in to play, guiding me through my surges! At 7.47am I pulled our beautiful baby boy Jude David out of the water 💙

I will forever be grateful for the tools I learnt that helped us have the most phenomenal birth experience I could ever have wished for!
