Birth story - Laura and baby Micah

A brief summary of my amazing, empowering and very unexpected birth!

We were throwing an intimate birthday party for my daughter and after eating A LOT of pizza I started getting pressure in my pelvis. I went upstairs to lay down and my husband kept saying I think this is it!! I didn't believe him, not sure why!?

I decided to listen to my husband and start tracking the contractions (didn't really feel anything like first time round) and my app told me soon after to go into hospital. However, I didn't believe I was ready to give birth 😂. I wasn't in pain as such, more just intense pressure so I ignored the advice - as you do! I had the Tens machine on (as I did during my first labour and found it super helpful) but it did nothing this time around so I took it off. I found lying down most comfortable. My husband convinced me to call the midwife led unit and she even said "it's going to be a quick birth." Unfortunately the unit was closed and I was pretty gutted, I had such a blessed first labour where I had my daughter in the water, I was very keen to have the same experience again.

The guests left (little did we know 30mins later our baby boy would be joining us). My husband began to pack the car when I needed to go to the toilet, I suddenly felt this amazing sensation and I felt the head! I shouted to my husband that the baby was coming, he got me into the bath. He was on the phone to 999 as my waters broke and I had the shower head pointing at me for pain relief. I told my husband he would have to catch the baby - which he did thankfully 😂

We were very blessed throughout, we had loads of paramedics turn up and I was seen by the midwife and didn't have to go into hospital - which was amazing! I got to sit in my own bed and eat birthday cake from my daughter's party!

On reflection, I don't feel bad for not taking the advice from the app, it is very possible with the speed of the labour I may have given birth on route to the hospital which would have been quite scary. I feel as though I had a really positive experience and if I have more children I will be having home births for sure! X
