Birth story - Jane and baby Torrin

On the 21st of February 2018 two people entered a MINI Countryman and 25 minutes later three people exited.

I was 39 weeks and 3 days pregnant when en route to the hospital. I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy in the front seat of our MINI.

We had been to hospital 3 hours previously and had been sent away with the understanding that our labour was only just beginning. After a soak in the bath and many contractions my waters broke. My husband carried me in my dressing gown into the front seat of the car and began to drive. I knew our baby was coming. I turned around and crouching in the seat I rested my face against the headrest preparing for each contraction.

After a short time I began to push. My husband drove as fast as he could but we didn’t make it in time. At 14:25 Torrin was born in my arms and I cuddled him into my dressing gown while we finished the journey with the biggest smile on my face feeling like a real life Wonder Woman.

My husband, so focused on the road couldn’t believe his ears when our baby, taking his first breaths, began to cry from my arms in the passenger seat next to him.

Once we arrived at the hospital my husband parked on the walk way and ran shouting into the labour ward and came back with a whole army of midwives. After a quick check from the back seat of the car a midwife handed the scissors to my husband and he cut our connecting cord from the driving seat.

We are the happiest family and so proud of our story.

I am really touched by the work you are doing to promote a positive outlook on birth and I hope my story if nothing else makes you smile.
