Birth story - Fernanda and baby Grey

Pregnancy:

My pregnancy was a low risk pregnancy it was a bit rough with anxiety and questioning every single feeling, I had bad nausea and constipation but really no major problems.

At 39 weeks I got a sweep done, using my BRAIN I felt it was a safe decision for me and for that whole week I had contractions that would come and go every day.

On April 1st I woke up at 5 am with contractions but I thought nothing of it since I had had these all week, I went of on my day I worked one more day lol and used up breathing through these as they came and went all day.

By 5pm the contractions where constant and every 10 min or so, I knew it was baby time soon. By 6 pm Freya told me I was in established labor and my contractions where 3 min apart lasting one minute. I waited an hour so I could go to the hospital and off we went.

In triage they checked me and I was 2cm dilated but my contractions where every minute so they admitted me to labor ward.

From 9pm to 2 am I managed to go through the surges with the tens machine and up breathing but after a cervical check that showed I was 5 cm dilated I decided I had to get some rest and made the decision to get an epidural. I had been in the red zone for over an hour and had not been able to come down.

After the epidural I rested for a bit but I had a low dose so that I could still feel the surges. At 7 am when the doctor came and checked me she told me I was fully dilated and ready to push.

My waters never broke so at this point she broke my waters and I started to get ready.

Because my legs where numb my pushing options where limited but I had an amazing team that coached me through every push it was my favorite part. We cranked up my labor playlist and I was enjoying every break in between pushes moving grooving and just so exited to meet my baby boy.

17 min later my perfect little boy was in my arms

I did have some blood loss and they where working on me for a while but having my boy on my chest made me concentrate on him and how happy I was. We delayed cord clamping and enjoyed well over 2 hours of skin to skin.

I truly believe my birth story was positive even though a lot of things were so different from what I imagined. Even a medicated birth was still a positive for me as I knew all the information and all the decisions were mine.

I really thank the positive birth company for creating the online program and this group because it made me change my mindset about birth.

I only wished I had found it before I started at 36 weeks.

I wish every Mama a happy positive birth story.
