Birth story - Anastasia and baby Niki

Pregnancy

My pregnancy was straight forward with mild nausea in the 1st trimester, I also went through ECV procedure successfully in the 38w and it was only in the 9th month that I had severe back pain and I had to use crutches. I found out after I gave birth that I got sacrum insufficiency fractures and that was due to osteopenia problem. I also found out that I had retained placenta and I had to remove it 3months after birth! Despite the difficulties my whole experience of giving birth was very positive and that was due to hypnobirthing course.

Birth

My water broke at 3.30am but I didn’t have any pain until 5.30am which were just mild contractions! However, my waters kept coming initially watery but then brownish/greenish so I called MAU and they advised to go for a check. I went in to hospital at 6.30am and they confirmed my waters had baby’s poo and they needed to keep me in for monitoring the baby. At 9am I was still only 2 cm dilated but baby was very low. At 11am I reached 4cm. I started using gas and air and the contractions were painful but manageable. At 3pm I was 6cm and contractions were coming more often.

I reached a stage when I asked for an epidural because pain became worse but I asked them to check me for dilation before I took the final decision for the epidural. They checked me around 7pm and I was 9.5 cm! The midwife told me that epidural might delay the whole process and I was really close so she really encouraged me to continue without it if I could! I didn’t have a clue when everything would finish but I didn’t want a further delay so I opted out at the end for the epidural! Pushing stage lasted about 1h but I managed to go through it without any tearing! We finally got to meet our baby girl❤️
